Tips For Great Facebook Ad Images

Although outrageous and funny images can help get clicks, they do nothing to build your brand, and this is what creates lasting value on Facebook.

GE are sponsoring the Olympics, so it makes sense that in order to make the most of this investment they want to evoke feelings of sport, competition and winning at The Games. So, your images may be dictated by a special promotion, like this one:

Who is your target customer? What kind of images are relevant and attractive to them? Think about what makes your offer attractive, maybe it is the feeling it gives your customers, or perhaps you can source an image of your ideal customer type if you can’t afford to shoot your own images, just like this stock photo below:

You will also want to choose images that are aligned to what you are advertising or the copy of your ad. It doesn’t always have to be literal, but there is a reason why Lexus feature a car in their ad images!

If you have a product or service that is best showed off in bigger images, then you should think about using Page Post Ads instead. These allow you to use images sized up to 404×404, and although more and more are using these and they don’t stand out as much as they first did, they are still cheaper than the regular marketplace ads you find on the right hand side of your news feed. The image below stands out for obvious reasons, but it still remains relevant to the Photo Contest it is advertising.

The 5 Inescapable Truths About Marketing On Facebook

Want Facebook to work harder for your business? I’ve found that your marketing efforts deliver BIG dividends when you pay attention to the following 5 Truths:

1. Stay Current

As we know, Facebook changes constantly. They are always working to increase activity and engagement, and never more than in the year of their IPO.

This means change is inevitable, but you must use it to your advantage.

Set yourself apart from the competition and maximize your marketing budget by staying in the loop with Facebook changes. You can find new ways to get seen, and it’s easy enough to do when you connect with the right sources.

2. Be Relevant 

The intention of your Facebook Page should be to deliver real value to your target audience. Discover what represents value to your market, and set about providing it.

This will require some trial and error, but by checking your Page Insights regularly, you can find out what your audience wants to hear more about as well as get a better picture of who your customers are in the Demographics section.

Create a profile in your mind of one single customer that represents your target market, think of that one person in all your Facebook posts and ad copy as this will speak to your market so much more than trying to be all things to all people.

3. Remain Authentic

Don’t fall into the trap of copying the strategies of your competitors or just posting “stiff” messages on your Page.

Your customers are on Facebook for entertainment and to connect with their friends and businesses they care about, so let them in while still staying true to your brand. This also fosters connection and creates the perfect relationship for future exchanges (that means they’re more likely to buy your stuff!).

4. Frequency Is Everything

Facebook requires consistent effort to build an audience and ensure your efforts get seen by the right kind of people. As you know, not everyone sees your page posts in their newsfeed, but you have more chance if you post at least twice daily.

I don’t like auto-posting tools generally, I really think HootSuite on Facebook is a turn-off. But, I have found a similar tool that features a your brand in the image rather than that pesky blue owl that everyone knows.

Now of course it wouldn’t be right not to mention the fact that Facebook Ads are the best way to get noticed on Facebook and build your audience. You can do it organically, it just takes far longer and is WAY more demotivating!

Facebook Ads put you front and centre before your ideal customers who otherwise would still be waiting to hear all about you. Facebook now have a whole raft of options to increase visitors to your Page and raise engagement. The new Facebook Offers and Page Post ads are my favourite for this.

What I Know For Sure About Facebook Ads

There’s always a whole lot of discussion going on about whether Social Media is worthwhile, and when the demise of Facebook is coming, particularly with the launch of Google +.

I’ve got to admit, I have been playing around on Google +, and I am enjoying the cut-through and simplicity of it from a social and business networking perspective.

It is clearly popular amongst “Early-Adopters” and the Online Marketing community, but it still has a way to go before it proves itself to have the power of Facebook as a platform, especially for business.

That’s not to say it won’t provide opportunities for us as marketers, but it is still very much the New Kid On The Block.

Lewis Howes, who is the Go To Guy for LinkedIn, wants me to do some Facebook Ads for him and I told him that I’d love to help him build his online audience.

As we set about developing the right strategy, he threw out a challenge, or a legitimate question.  Or maybe it was both.

He wanted to know whether he should invest further in Facebook since he is seeing a decline in engagement on his Page since Google +.

After I pondered his question for about 1 second, I could barely contain my desire to share with Lewis exactly what I know for sure about Facebook, and why Facebook Ads are still of enormous value to his brand.

Would you prefer to target people searching for a Yoga Classes on Google? Or would you rather target Women Aged 25-40 living in Manhattan, who wear lululemon athetica, have read Eat Pray Love and are inspired by the Dalai Lama with Facebook Ads?

2. Pictures Tell Your Story Better Than Words
A Facebook Ad can ride on the success of a well selected image alone. The image also shows off your brand personality so much more than text alone.

Connecting with authenticity and value could not be easier once you catch their awareness with a Facebook Ad, bring them over to your Page, capture their email, and then start a meaningful and lasting dialogue that leads to more sales over time. Be Remarkable With Facebook Ads

My kids were driving me crazy today.  Despite the fact that we’d gone to see the latest Harry Potter movie, they were really making my shopping trip less than pleasurable.

The rescue came in the form of the guy in the toy store. He took the time to chat to my girls and engage them in some of his new products in between finding me the perfect gift for a friend’s child.

The kids and I walked out of the store smiling from the engaging service we had received.

It was remarkable.

So, it got me thinking about the things you can do to stand out amongst the competition, and how it can create enormous value in your business.

Next time you set about creating your Facebook Ads, see what you can do to make them remarkable. The following suggestions are just a start:

  • Delight with a funny or endearing image
  • Surprise by using the user’s  Age or Hometown in the copy of your ad (you can target prospects by these demographics)
  • Say Happy Birthday to your fans and give them access to a special offer (this is also a targeting option)

Making your Facebook Ads remarkable is about setting your brand apart from your competition and creating a special connection with your audience. You want the first impression of your brand to be positively memorable, not just to get a click, but to eventually get a conversion and customer for life.
